The scale of the 90-foot-diameter Yerkes dome is evident given the gentleman posing in the framework. Designed by Warner & Swasey, the dome was cleverly driven. It uses a continuous loop of steel cable riding in a C-channel that is facing outward and mounted inside the lower circumferance of the dome skirt. Tension is maintained by hanging pulleys and weights.
