Member's Photo Site Hints & HelpHelpThe Stellafane Member's Photo Site is built on top of Gallery V2.3. There is not a lot of user level help documents are available, most is focused on the site administrator and installer, and to a somewhat lesser extent the user who is creating albums. Official Gallery documentation can be found here. I tend to use Google to search for information, and it often gets me the answer quicker than looking through the documentation. Just be sure to use Gallery2 (with no space before the 2) as the first word you use in Google. For example, typing 'Gallery2 keyword albums' into a Google search will pretty quickly get you all that is available on this topic. Hints for ViewersKeyword Albums: We have keyword albums enabled. Keywords can be placed on items by the person who posts them, and they are shown in the album cover, album pages and photo views as hyperlinks. If you click on one, a dynamic keyword album will be generated containing all items that contain that keyword. It is possible to create a keyword item based on multiple keywords; all items in this dynamic album will
have ALL listed keywords. Click on one of your desired keyword, for example, let us use 'Hale'. A dynamic keyword album
is created and displayed. Notice the URL in the browser address bar: You may add additional keywords to the end of this, separate them with a semicolon. For example: Hints for PostersHiding Albums: If you are working on an album and don't want it to be seen before it is ready, you can hide the album from view. Just select Edit Album for the left bar, and near the bottom of the General tab there is check box for Hide Album. Don't forget to uncheck this box when your album is ready to view! Album Cover Image: The photo that appears on your album covers is called a Highlight. By default, the first photo in the album is used. If you want to use another photo, navigate to it, then under Item Actions you can choose Make Highlight. This dialog will let you choose which album to apply this photo to. Custom Fields: You can create custom field for your albums and determine where they will be displayed. Find this in the Edit Album dialog under the Custom Fields tab. You need to click to override the global settings (globally we have no custom fields) and then you can set up whatever you need. For instance, astroimages might want custom fields for exposure, number of stacked frames, etc. Theme Tweaks: We would prefer it if you would not change any Theme settings in the Edit Album page; we would like the site to look fairly consistent across all albums. Links: We have enable links in the Add Item dialog. Any place you can add an item, it can be a link to other albums on the site, or it can use an external URL to hop off to anywhere on the web (please use this feature very sparingly, and think about why you would want to put an external link in your photo album). Using the link feature between albums can help you tie together events that don't fall in the same tree - for instance, if 3 members all posted photos of the same comet, links could direct viewers to the other members comet photos. If you discover something useful that should be shared here, let me know and I'll consider adding to this list. Back to the Member's Photo Page or Photo Site Rules Page |
