Member's Photo Site Usage Rules

Note: These rules may be revised at any time based on our experience with the site.
Account holders will be notified by e-mail if the rules change.

The Stellafane Member's Photo web pages at http://photos.Stellafane.org/ allow members with an account to post photos to an web based photo album. Anyone can view these photos.

The following rules apply to this site and these accounts:

1. Any member of the Springfield Telescope Makers in good standing can request an account from the webmaster. Please e-mail the webmaster (e-mail link in this pages footer) your request with your first and last name and e-mail address. The webmaster will create an album and account for you, and return a username and password for you to log in with. Members only, non-member requests will not be accepted.

2. This site is owned and controlled by the Springfield Telescope Makers, Inc. and the webmaster and the board of directors has final authority over the content. The guidelines below describe acceptable content for this site, and may be revised by the board and/or webmaster as they feel necessary at any time. Unacceptable content may be hidden or deleted, and accounts may be suspended if content is deemed to be unacceptable for this site.

3. Security: You are responsible for the content of your area. Do not disclose your username or password to anyone else.

4. Data Integrity: We plan to do monthly backups of this area and will attempt to make sure your album and data will not be lost. However we cannot guarantee this, and you should not store the only copies of your material on this site.

5. No offensive material my be posted to this site. Offensive material includes but is not limited to: images that show or suggest adult themes, violence, gore or hate. Stellafane is a 'Rated G' site, and we intend to keep it that way.

6. Illegal material. Any material that is prohibited by the laws of the United States or the State of Vermont may not be posted. Please be sure not to post anything you don't have clear copyright over.

7. No commercial postings allowed. No classifieds or for sales. No swaps, barter, give-aways or anything similar.

8. DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) take down requests will be honored in a timely manner. In the event of a take down request it will be the user's responsibility to establish their clear copyright or fair use of any questioned material.

9. Users will indemnify and hold harmless the Springfield Telescope Makers, Inc for any an all actions resulting from the images they post.

Guidelines for Posting

The following guidelines are provided to guide you in the type of material we want to see on this site:

1. First and foremost, this area is to show off your work. Please don't post pictures that are not yours (the one exception in this area is the posting of historical pictures with astronomical themes that you may not have taken).

2. Astroimages that you have taken, preferably with your own equipment. Images obtained from commercial imaging services are discouraged.

3. Photographs of your astronomy equipment you have built.

4. Photographs of historic telescopes, observatories and observers and historic astrophotographs (see copyright rule above).

If you have questions about the suitability of your photos, please check with the webmaster. Also, please focus on posting a small number of high quality images, and not everything in your collection. Not many people want to wade through hundreds of photos to find a few excellent ones to look at.
